Things on the internet that don’t suck

It’s not all bad!

A pair of pumpkins on a porch, with extremely cute carved smiley faces.
A pair of adorable pumpkins I spotted during a recent walk. LOOK HOW CUTE!!!

Everything below except for the first link comes from my “Why didn’t I think of that!!!” list and are things I first learned about via Twitter. I learned about the first link from a recent-ish issue of Laura Olin‘s fantastic newsletter.

  1. Worse on Purpose: “Corporate autopsies on the brands you trust. Who bought them, who gutted them, and what’s still worth buying.”
  2. An ongoing, active archive of personal websites
  3. “Kids shape culture, and their drawings show what captures their attention.” Riley Walz, the man behind Jmail, the clone of Epstein’s Google account, is back with another incredible internet project: Kid Trendz, a searchable visual database of more than 100 million drawings by children scraped from an online student art gallery that “explore almost 20 years of favorite characters, passing obsessions, and everyday life.”
  4. This Flock camera map, and this one
  5. Is it owned by private equity?
  6. A website that matches the weather outside your window to a Rothko paining. You can select historical dates, too. Just scroll to the bottom of the information box and select whichever date(s) you want
  7. Walkipedia: “Wikipedia, but only for things a half-hour walk away.”
  8. An archive of film magazines from 1954 through 2007
  9. I’ve never seen a personal website/blog design quite like this (extremely complimentary). Best viewed on desktop
  10. Art made from medication information sheets: a poem, and a scarf
